Su cine, Libertad (Her Theater, Libertad)

In the 1960s, my grandmother migrated to the United States, leaving behind her home in Tijuana and Cine Libertad, one of the first movie theaters built in Colonia Libertad during the 1940s.

For decades, the theater existed only in memory. In 2018, I brought her back. We found it abandoned, its walls fractured by time and on the verge of renovation. As we walked through its ruins, her body and the building seemed to mirror one another—both marked by endurance, adaptation, and the passage of time.

Through 35mm photography, I explore how the spaces we inhabit preserve our stories, becoming silent witnesses to our lives.
