The Lines We Inherited is a photographic project exploring the presence of my matriarchal lineage through clothing, the body, and landscape. Inspired by the clothes inherited from the women in my family and the landscapes of mountains and desert, the work reflects on the connection between us.

Using analog photography I document my mother and grandmother wearing clothes that belonged to previous generations: my grandmother wearing the clothes of her mother, and my mother wearing the stockings of hers. These acts of dressing become a ritual of presence, allowing absent women to reappear through the bodies, gestures, and even the odor of my past matriarchs.

The work considers clothing, the body, and the land as acts of defending our memory.
